Goat Man of Zeigler Haunts Pines River Legend Ends in 1961
Allan Patton recalls George Surdell known as the Goat Man who lived in a 10 by 10 foot shack near Zeigler after the 1929 crash. He foraged from a junkyard, kept goats for milk and cheese, and cooled milk in a river deep spot. Surdell died April 18, 1961, after a long, secluded life shadowed by mystery.
