Cook Enters Last Home Alcatraz After Kidnap Slayings

Badman William E. Cook began a 300 year sentence for the Mosser family kidnap murder at Alcatraz. Warden Swope called it the longest sentence known. Cook wore handcuffs and leg irons during transfer from Oklahoma. He is also sought in Imperial County for the Seattle slaying and faces Missouri and Oklahoma cases.

War Bride Ellen Knauff Barred From Citizenship

SIU Freshman James Reynolds Held for Armed Robbery

James Reynolds 21 of West Frankfort, an SIU freshman, was arraigned in Franklin County on armed robbery charges after allegedly robbing a West Frankfort filling station. Justice of the Peace John Andras set a $5,000 bond. Reynolds indicated his parents would post it, and he confessed to three other station robberies outside the county.

Argonne national laboratory officials testified before a grand jury investigating the night time entry of Paul Harvey into the atom lab grounds. Witnesses included Dr. Walter H. Wilson Says U S Military Power In Sight To Deter Reds

Charles E. Wilson, head of the Office of Defense Mobilization, announced in a news conference that the nation has in sight the military power to deter aggressors. He warned inflation remains an internal enemy and pledged possible expansion of price control powers, while noting the Wage Stabilization board should be reorganized.
