Saluki men and women swept three of four events on day one at Lou Hartzog Track in Carbondale as CARBONDALE junior T. Lambert unleashed a personal best hammer throw of 212-9.5. Teammates Collin Otto and Brad Foote also placed, with Otto third and Foote fourth amid wet, cold conditions. Lambert cited endurance and a rough week as factors in his late surge.
Connor Wheeler starred in the 24th All-Star Basketball Classic at Marion High School, scoring 36 points on 10 of 12 from three and leading Team Wheeler to a 121-117 win over Team Muir. He boosted his rivals after losses in dunk and three-point contests.
Josh Swan scored a career high 39 points for Pace Academy in a loss to Wilkinson County in Atlanta. The 6-3 guard verbally committed to Southern Illinois University men’s basketball, potentially addressing SIU’s lack of double figure guards last season. See Swan on page 4C.
