Parrish pupils glimpse prehistory on mobile museum
Pre K through first grade students at Parrish School enjoyed a field trip to Dino Discovery, a mobile dinosaur exhibit run by Dan and Janice Stone of Taylor, Missouri. The crown jewel is the Burning Tree Mastodon skull and tusks from Newark, Ohio, 1989 find. The mastodon was 95 percent intact and the largest of its kind, with remains suggesting human butchered activity 9,600 years ago. The exhibit includes eight live-bacteria species found in the mammal’s intestines, dating to about 11,600 years ago. The Stones aim to bring this world history to children who might not otherwise visit a museum.
