Ammonia Explosion Forces 180 From Booneville Homes
An explosion at the Cargill Meat Solutions plant in Booneville caused an ammonia gas leak that displaced about 180 residents. The plant, producing frozen ground beef patties and steaks, was closed Sundays. no worker injuries were reported. Fire released an estimated 88,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia and 100,000 pounds of carbon dioxide.

Four dead and one missing after Alaska Ranger sinks
A Seattle based fishing vessel Alaska Ranger sank 120 miles west of Dutch Harbor Alaska after taking on water near 3 a m. Four crew members died and one is missing from the 47 aboard as 42 were rescued. The vessel carried 100000 gallons of diesel and an oil sheen was reported. Coast Guard crews from a C 130 helicopter and other boats aided in rescue and search efforts at sea.
