Presley and Lively Shaped Bald Knob Cross History
In a spring 1936 conversation Wayman Presley and Rev. William Lively envisioned Easter services atop Bald Knob in Union County. Their effort grew into a 111 foot cross with a base completed by 1952 and the current steel structure finished by 1959. They promoted non denominational worship and fundraising efforts drew national attention. Presley died in 1990 and Lively in 1992.
