Rehab work planned at Perry County Fairground
Improvements are coming to the Perry County Fairground in Pinckneyville including grandstand wiring and new handicapped accessible restrooms with shower facilities for campers and the Threshermen. The city backs the project with a $45,000 pledge and a $40,000 loan guarantee, plus a $5,000 city boost. state reimbursement may be $30,000 if the Ag Society spends $45,000. The plan follows previous funding cutbacks and prioritizes accessibility over repainting, with the fair debt-free. City council also considers cleaning three aging water towers and funding a new police car while eyeing broader city improvements.

Du Quoin weighs airing council meetings on TV
Du Quoin residents may soon see or hear city council meetings on Channel 18. SYSCOM Regional Manager Don Richey outlined options for live audio or video or tape-delayed broadcasts with an initial startup cost of 2000 to 6000 dollars for equipment, noting tape delay would raise costs while airing would be free. He cited benefits of home viewing and cautioned live broadcasts would expose all council actions to the public.
