Way cleared for new Salem water line

Salem City Manager Larry Rollinson said the final hurdle to a 4.4 million dollar water line from Carlyle Lake to the city reservoir was removed. Mayor Charles McMackin reported HUD will not require an environmental impact statement for the 18 mile line, since an existing line reduces the need. The old wooden line leaks, delivering only 600 to 800 thousand gallons daily, while the new line will carry about 3 million gallons per day.
