Hurst council raises water and sewer rates
Hurst residents will pay higher water and sewer charges starting April 1 as the city funds a planned sewer system. Water will cost 3.50 per 1000 gallons, replacing a 6.75 minimum for 3000 gallons, while sewer charges rise from a 1.25 monthly flat to 1 per 1000 gallons. The city seeks a 1978 end date for a treatment plant and lagoon, financed by a 240700 grant from the Illinois EPA. Mayor Loomis Carter notes the lagoon will sit two miles south on 20 acres donated by Consolidation Coal Co near the Big Muddy River. Carter also creates a mayoral award to honor a local organization with a commemorative plaque.
