Fires Plague Egypt Lake Area Residents
The Lake of Egypt Fire Department warns residents against open burning after three field fires last week. Spokesman Henry Basco noted a Saturday blaze near South Market Street Road that scorched about one acre and threatened nearby homes and trailers, contained by 14 volunteers with no structures damaged. A second fire at 2:30 p.m. Friday burned roughly three acres south of the power company dam. A third fire Saturday afternoon was extinguished before crews arrived amid dry vegetation and strong winds increasing fire risk.
