Seattle Soldier Suspect Opposed Fourth Afghanistan Deployment

Seattle defense lawyer John Henry Browne says the 38 year old staff sergeant from Joint Base Lewis McChord was reluctant to deploy again. The decorated soldier, linked to a bloodshed rampage in southern Afghanistan, is in custody with family safety concerns noted.

Taliban Talks End Nafo Yet Karzai Demands NATO Exit

Afghanistan news reports a Taliban break in talks with the U.S. along with President Karzai pressing NATO to withdraw from rural areas and accelerate Afghan forces to take nationwide security lead by 2013. He linked it to the killing of 16 civilians and urged safer Afghan village operations. The Pentagon cautioned against abrupt troop withdrawals. Meanwhile lawmakers demanded the killer be tried in Afghanistan and a Seattle lawyer was hired to represent the soldier.
