Trail of Tears State Forest fire tower joins historic list
The Trail of Tears State Forest fire tower in Union County was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1934 or 1935, the tower is currently blocked by a road closure and wire fencing due to safety concerns from weak wooden stairs. Engineers are surveying the structure while staff keep visitors away, noting a sturdy foundation as a good starting point.
