Edgar urges tightening drunk driving law in Illinois
Illinois Secretary of State Jim Edgar told a Illinois House subcommittee that a 1971 drunk driving law has allowed thousands to avoid prosecution and spurred alcohol related deaths. He called for faster processing, shorter delays for Breathalyzer tests, and a bill to extend license suspensions for refusals and remove the 90 minute wait before testing. Several witnesses, including Kenneth Wienke’s father, urged reforms after his son’s death.
