Farmland Zoning Fails to Slow Loss in Henry County
Henry County adopted a five acre minimum to curb farmland loss but developers still carve five acre plots and much rich ground turns to weeds. W Ted Good, former county chair, says the issue persists. Statewide zoning attempts failed though Illinois lost about 75 000 acres of farmland to other uses in 1977.

Extension agent lists tips for hog profit gains
Dennis Thompson of Williamson County extension adviser notes many expect hog prices to fall and offers university backed tips to raise profits. Focus on feed efficiency with lower feed per 100 pounds of pork, breeding performance in heat, reduced feed waste, selective breeding, and prioritizing feed costs over daily gain. Maintain 45 to 50 pigs per year per crate as a baseline, with some reaching 80, and conserve energy via insulation and targeted heating.
