Marion to rebuild civic center after fire and fundraising shortfall

Groundbreaking will begin soon for the Marion Cultural and Civic Center on Tower Square amid more than 700000 dollars still needed. Zeller Construction leads the project with 800000 dollar donation hopes for an 80 foot stage house offset by saving the 50 foot stage. Local leaders cite community benefit and future generations as key reasons for rebuilding the historic site. The Center replaces the Orpheum Theatre, opened in 1921 and rebuilt after the 1971 closure. Funding includes a 1 million dollar grant from state officials and continued private support.
