U S Rep Paul Simon says he is disappointed but not surprised by higher education budget cuts proposed by President Reagan. The plan trims Basic Educational Opportunity Grants to 611 million dollars and tightens eligibility to require 750 dollars income, with families contributing 20 percent. Simon notes hardship for students in places like Cairo and warns the House Budget Committee lacks detail as Congress awaits more information from Terrel Bell.
