Berkeley woman enforces smoking ban in store
Berkeley resident Pat Vandervort filed complaints against two smokers in a California Book Company store under a city ordinance prohibiting smoking in public buildings. The 30 year old, allergic to tobacco, says she acted to understand and enforce the rule and hopes others will obey. The case exposed contradictions in the ordinance and sparked debate about penalties and enforcement.
