Static electricity risks at refueling sites in winter
The American Petroleum Institute and the Petroleum Equipment Institute warn that drier winter air increases static discharge risk during refueling. Do not reenter the vehicle while filling, discharge static by touching a metal surface first, and avoid plastic bed containers or overfilled tanks. If a fire starts, stay away from the nozzle and alert staff immediately.
