Shib's Law moves through legislature and safety push

Lesser firefighters hope to attend a Springfield vote on SB 2488 known as Shib's Law which would empower fire departments to close highways without officers present and raise penalties for drivers who kill responders. The bill, prompted by the death of veteran firefighter James Miller on Interstate 47, would align highway fatality penalties with roadside construction zone deaths, offering 3 to 14 years for one death and 6 to 28 years for multiple deaths, with sponsors Sen Gary Forby and Rep John Bradley backing similar measures.
