Alton fluoridation ruling heads for Supreme Court
Alton faces a Supreme Court appeal after a circuit court found Illinois fluoridation law unconstitutional. Assistant Attorney General Richard Cosby said the notice of appeal was filed Friday and may go directly to the Supreme Court. The ruling halted fluoride addition in Alton and halted state enforcement, with Judge Ronald Neimann deeming the 1967 law an unreasonable police power. Ruby Hale of the Illinois Pure Water Committee welcomed the stay denial, while Cosby noted other towns may choose to shut down on their own.
