Carbondale chamber targets transport and growth along U.S. 51
The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce wins state support for a $250000 upgrade of U.S. 51 at Dillinger Road to reach the Bicentennial Industrial Park with funds split among Illinois, the city and federal sources. The project raises the highway grade, adds a new access road, and adds 300 foot turn lanes while the park remains vacant. The chamber also aims to advance an east west Illinois 13 link and a downtown tourist convention center as part of a broader 1978 work program to boost retail and industrial growth.
