Nominees from Illinois for the new Air Academy will take entrance examinations Saturday at 13 schools and colleges. The Air Force announced 6,358 nominations for 300 vacancies in the first class, with exams to be held at Chicago area sites and schools in Oak Park Peoria Quincy Rockford Springfield Urbana and Winnetka. The tests cover verbal and mathematical aptitude achievement and English composition and social studies, plus medical and officer aptitude screenings. The first class will begin July 11 at Lowry Air Force Base and a permanent academy is under construction at Colorado Springs. About 2,500 last minute nominations were received as officials sorted applications.
