Benton Man Killed In Airplane Crash
A training plane crash near Benton Airport killed Bill Seibert 25 and seriously injured Paul Eussene Leffler 23. Both men from Benton were aboard the small aircraft when witnesses said it stalled after a sharp turn and plunged into a field. Leffler piloted the plane. Seibert left a widow Dolores and two sons.

Du Quoin Rookie Captures Texas Robbery Suspect
Du Quoin patrolman Robert Murray, off duty, spotted Barney Payne alias Robert Anderson, wanted for armed robbery in Minden Texas. Murray retrieved his badge and gun, then arrested Payne two miles south of Du Quoin on U S Route 51. Payne had known ties in Du Quoin and had been previously arrested for a traffic violation. Murray, on the force under a year, previously helped seize five Chicago counterfeiters passing through the town.

Recluse Brayfield Sought After Hut Fire Near Grenaa
Jackson County coroner Roy Huffman searched for Uncle Frank Brayfield after his hut two miles from Grenaa on route 3 burned early Sunday. Neighbors said the hut appeared to explode in flames. embers were found, but no body. Brayfield, last seen in Ava, was known to take long 16 mile walks.
