Council stalls on merit board reappointments in Du Quoin

Du Quoin City Council again fails to approve Mayor Rednour's bid to reappoint Babe Hill to the Police and Fire Merit Board. A nomination for Curtis Jackson also stalls for lack of a second amid party concerns. Jackson and Hill face opposition over politics and process as the council notes legal opinions were sought without its knowledge. In the end no one was appointed to the board while an ordinance creating an assistant chief of police is approved and fund-raising for Easter Seals proceeds. Historic city record books are slated for restoration with pledges from the mayor, the Appulin family, and the Lions Club.
