A 16 year old Benton High School sophomore Devon LaPointe died after a Friday night single vehicle crash on Bunny Hop road south of Benton. Four others injured include Alonzo Williams Chelsea Roberts and Samantha Shelton. Police say speeding through a 90 degree curve caused the crash. LaPointe died Saturday at St Francis Medical Center Cape Girardeau. Community mourns another student loss this year.
Fourth grade at General John A. Logan Attendance Center in Murphysboro gifts Curtis Thompson, a 23 year old SIU Carbondale graduate and new teacher, a scrapbook of letters and mementos as he heads to Kuwait with the Illinois National Guard. The school community cheered as he left, receiving a St. Christopher medal, a four leaf clover, and a teddy from students. Thompson is expected to be in Kuwait by mid March.
