Court refuses to reconsider pledge ruling in school case
In a Friday decision the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to rehear its 2-1 ruling that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance with the words under God in public schools violates church state separation. The panel urged possible Supreme Court review. Ashcroft condemned the decision but did not commit to an appeal. The case, brought by Michael Newdow, could affect nine Western states and millions of students.
