Bach Birthday Concerts At SIU Carbondale
Southern Illinois University Carbondale hosts Bach 300th birthday celebrations on March 4 5 in Shryock Auditorium with a blockbuster concerto featuring seven soloists and a chamber orchestra led by John Mochnick. The program includes two three and four piano concertos, violins and organ works, with guest soloists from Queens College and Chicago Symphony. A dinner precedes the events and tickets are available.

Bach Day at SIUC marks 300th birthday celebration
Children spend a day with Bach and Babar the Elephant as SIUC hosts Bach Day in Carbondale. Students tour the University Museum, attend Bach Birth day Concert, and enjoy a Bach Lunch and a program at Shryock Auditorium with soloists Rachael and Nicole Medalo. The four piano quartet and Poulenc's The Story of Babar are featured with Lyn Strothmann narrating. Funding from Illinois Arts Council and others sponsors the event. lunch costs $1.25. All spaces filled, says director Michael Minning.

Pete Rosenberg notes Alabama will stage a indoors show at SIU Arena in Carbondale on Saturday night as part of the 40 Hour Week Tour. The band upgrades include a 2000 light curtain, new sound and lighting, elevated risers, and Kabuki style curtain positioning to heighten suspense. Stage manager Ed Turner describes logistics for about 50 crew and three tractor trailers, with a tight setup and teardown at Carbondale and Champaign.
