Elmer J. Medlin Jr., a 71 year old Carbondale attorney, credits his survival to wearing a seat belt after a near fatal crash on U S 51 near Tamaroa June 14 1984. He survived injuries that left him with a crushed foot and back and shoulder damage and spent weeks in the hospital.
