Impaction aid bill fails in Illinois Senate
The Illinois Senate defeated a measure aiding college towns near state universities. It would have set one percent of a school's operating budget as extra funds for cities within one mile. Opponents argued existing state aid sufficed under a tax package. The sponsor, Sen. John G. Gilbert, said the bill’s 22 votes showed partial support. The Senate also sent to the governor a campus demonstration policy bill for state universities.
