School Breakfast Aid Also Extends Milk Program
The Senate Agriculture Committee approved a pilot program to fund school breakfasts for needy children and extended the school milk program for three years. The plan envisions federal aid of 7.5 million dollars in year one and 10 million in year two, limited to nonfood equipment for districts unable to provide meals. Officials say over 1 million pupils would gain access to breakfast, with an estimated 2 million of 18 million lunch program children paying little or none of the costs.
