Jackson Union port district funds cleared

The Illinois House Appropriations Committee approved a 55550 appropriation to continue planning site evaluation and economic studies for a proposed Jackson Union Counties Regional Port District. Reps. Bruce Richmond and Bill Harris said the amendment was added to the Transportation budget. The port’s first two years are projected to yield about 50 million in economic impact, serving coal, sand, gravel, grain, fertilizer, and future refrigerated container shipping for regional growers.
