Utilities Tax Now Assured Of The Southern Illinois
Springfield June 29 AP The utility tax bill nearly ready to go to Gov. Stratton for signature after a 79 to 66 House vote. The measure allows cities and villages to levy a utilities tax up to a percent of firm gross revenues without referendum, with a companion bill letting utilities pass the tax to city residents. The package also includes a half cent city sales tax option and a higher state sales tax for two years. The use tax imposes a 4% tax on merchandise bought outside the state to avoid Illinois sales tax.
