The Associated Press reports muggy heat persisted in much of the East while a slender cold front triggered heavy rain in spots. Much of the West remained dry with clear skies. Deep South areas saw over 2 inches of rain in Tupelo Mississippi and Dalton Georgia. Temperatures spanned from 28 degrees in Yellowstone Wyoming to 110 in Thermal California.
