A 13 year old Du Quoin boy was arrested on a juvenile warrant at 2 p.m. Friday and charged with two counts of burglary for allegedly stealing items from vehicles. He is held at St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center.
Du Quoin men Daniel J. Lemmons and Ronald J. Miller pleaded guilty in Perry County Circuit Court to unlawful criminal drug conspiracy after being caught attempting to steal anhydrous ammonia for drug manufacture. A third man, Robert Nichols, remains at large with a $2,000 bond set on a felony charge.
Sparta School District moves toward the 2003-04 year with personnel changes. Warren Fehrenz resigns as physical education teacher. Dorothy Eggemeyer resigns as treasurer. Paula Huseman hired as business manager. New hires include Robert Bohnert as eighth grade science teacher and Alex Wellmaker as high school special education teacher. Transportation contract with Zweigart Bus Services approved for 418553 dollars, up about 4000 from prior year. Heating and air work by DeRouse at primary school. library construction at Tilden center to start by Sept 15. High school gym bleachers replaced. new football field sprinkler system planned. Parking permits rise from 2 to 10 dollars to fund safety stops. ~200 permits issued annually. Also approved funding for Science Club landscaping, adjusted athletic budget for track hurdles, amended 2002-03 budget, and set contract talks with Sparta Education Association for July 10 and July 23.
