Haven facility helps veterans at Marion lake site
The Haven near Marion is a 150 by 80 foot American Legion project on 25 acres by the lake. It serves hospitalized veterans, nursing home residents, and children from Bush, with about 4,800 visitors yearly and activities from fishing to bingo. Manager Bernard Monroe renovated the site, rebuilt the dock, added gardens, and coordinates transportation funded by the Legion Auxiliary, DAV, and Elks. The program cost about $6,000 annually, with future goals to reach $9,000, and volunteers like Viola Cox support weekly trips.
