Trailer Owner Proposes $25 Insurance Fee East of Murphysboro

Quen tin Parrish, owner of New Era Trailer Court, plans a $25 monthly rent rise to fund fire protection after a fire destroyed an unoccupied trailer and the department billed $500 for a call outside city limits. Firefighters had refused to respond citing unpaid past fire calls. Town officials questioned the policy while Parrish insists tenants may bear the risk. He notes frequent fires and alarms and aims to establish an escrow to cover future calls. Residents largely rely on low rents, complicating rent increases. Parrish cites lack of outside water hookups as a fire risk and suggests disputed charges may stem from previous fire responses. The cause remains under investigation with Parrish noting possible faulty wiring.
