Down by the River Girl Wins Prize Poem
Ten year old Janice Marie Henderson of Carbondale will have her poem Down by the River published in the July issue of Jack and Jill magazine for children. She wrote the piece last year at age nine while a student at Springmore School and will receive a copy of the Jack and Jill round the Year Book.

Rabies Control To Hire Separate Jackson County Warden
The dog warden for the rabies season will work under the county rabies inspector rather than the Heart Department. Sanitarian Roy McGee notes the rabies inspector is a separate official though the two cooperate in rabies control. The program enforces mandatory inoculation and impoundment for unvaccinated dogs to prevent rabies spread. Dr. Leon F. Striegel leads the rabies inspector and impoundment efforts.
