Sparta Woman Dies Funeral Planned For Margaret Blind

Margaret Blind 68 of Sparta died at 1 40 pm Wednesday in Randolph County Nursing Home after a long illness. Born July 18 1926 in Sparta to John and Marshia Evans she lived in the area 50 years. She married Carl H Blind December 25 1913 in Sparta and was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church and Home Bureau. Survived by husband three sons Roland Russell Robert James all of Sparta three daughters Wanda Vaneil Florissant Shirley Orella Eilean Mahan and Evelyn Barbeau St Louis and numerous great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a daughter Mary Louise. Funeral 2 pm Saturday Walker Colonial Funeral Home Sparta with burial in Union Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 pm today.

Five Women Compete For City Park Beauty Crown

Five contestants, including Kathleen Hughing Jessica Lyell Barbara Beasley and Shirley Bruce, vie for the City Park beauty crown at 9 p.m. with a July 4 coronation planned. Contestants wear gowns and perform talent, judged for poise and personality, in a Lions Club homecoming event running through July 4. The tea for judging occurs July 2 at 4 p.m. in Johnston.

Driver Injured When Car Leaves Rt 3 North Of Evansville

Ed ward H. Williamson, 44, of Du Quoin was treated for major injuries at St. Clement's Hospital after his car ran off the road and hit an embankment two miles north of Evansville on Rt 3 at 7 p.m. Police reported three other accidents with no injuries. Dewey Griffin, 63, of Dupo hit a parked car on Rt 13 127 in Pinckneyville at 10:45 p.m. Melvin Miller, 18, Pinckneyville, and James Stock, 26, Chester, were uninjured after a crash at 12:50 a.m. near Johnston City when a tire blowout caused a loss of control on the Herrin to Johnston City road. Ben Fox, 62, and Janice Odum, 17, both of Marion, were in a collision at 12:05 a.m. today near the Rt 13 148 junction west of Marion.

Television Star Sends Message to Graduates

Johnny Carson sent a congratulatory message to graduates at Menard penitentiary education program saying he wished he could attend and extending best wishes. The Sparta Board of Education planned a special meeting to open bids for inside plumbing at Ellisgrove Grade School.
