Chester Lindsey a 28 year old resident of Cobden was seriously injured in an auto crash on Route 51 north of Cobden after a confrontation with two youths who had attacked him following a cap gun dispute. His car struck a guard rail, injuring his left leg badly. he was hospitalized in Anna Indiana.
In Va at the 49th annual state governors conference, GOP leaders debated whether Eisenhower should back a successor. Knight welcomed possible support, McKeldin dismissed such moves, Gruenther eyed as candidate, Nixon as likely nominee, and Stratton doubted any immediate nominee. Democratic governors offered little consensus with Chandler willing to run if nominated.

Three boys Sunday confessed to killing Martin Daniels Sr. in South Philadelphia, planning revenge prompted by Daniels Jr. The shooter was Daniels Jr. or another involved youth who used a .30-30 rifle as Daniels sat on his porch. Curtis Edwards and Albert Stolis aided as ambush participants in a cemetery nearby. Edwards’ father, Grover Edwards, was executed in 1955 for a separate murder.

Washington June 24 AP three University of California physicists with Chairman Strauss said the H bomb tests to date show negligible radioactive fallout and a possible 95 percent reduction. The scientists spoke at the White House with Strauss about future plans and declined to discuss disarmament or policy questions. Lawrence Mills Teller defended continued testing while noting the future remains highly classified.
Federal Judge Sylvester J. Ryan orders the dissolution of the International Boxing Club in New York and Illinois. James D. Norris and Arthur M. Wirtz must resign as Garden officers within 30 days after July 1 and dispose of all Madison Square Garden stock within five years. The ruling follows a March 8 monopoly finding in championship fight promotions.
New York grand jury cleared Hank Bauer of felonious assault charges after a two hour session. Jury foreman Williams Wadleigh Jr. filed notice that the panel found the case not to require an indictment after hearing 15 witnesses.

The court ruled obscenity falls outside First Amendment protection, upholding the federal obscenity statute and a California law in 6-3 rulings, and a New York injunction statute in a 5-4 decision. Justice Brennan led the majority, stressing obscenity’s lack of social value and broad international and national support for restraint.

A farmer, Andrew Brumo, reported that a lightning strike split his barn in two during a Sunday night storm in Brebn Sherburne New York. One half fell across a road, the other half burned, killing 39 cattle. The blaze destroyed another barn and a milkshed and an electrical storm cut power for about 30 minutes.
