Bidding Could Cut Jackson County Gasoline Costs
A Southern Illinoisan survey indicates Jackson County could save about 25 percent on gasoline by competitive bidding. The county currently buys from Martin Oil Co. in Carbondale and Texaco in Murphysboro, paying 27.9 cents per gallon including taxes. Officials note bidding may require new pumps and higher maintenance, while several firms express willingness to bid and offer rebates for high-volume purchases. The Road and Bridge Committee will study the issue.
