TVA Buys Southern Illinois Coal Rights for 41 Million

The Tennessee Valley Authority will pay 41 million dollars for coal rights on 39 000 acres across northeast Franklin County and parts of Jefferson and Hamilton counties TVA plans deep mining but will not strip mine and landowners receive 1050 per acre The deal follows a year long option with the Ewing Northern Coal Association and doubles previous reserve estimates to about 744 million tons
