Housing Authority weighs higher income tenants to lift rents
The Williamson County Housing Authority discussed selecting tenants in higher income brackets to raise rent receipts as recommended by HUD. Plans to target low income and elderly tenants remain. 20 percent of occupants may be higher income, with current rents $70 to $90 for majority, and low income units at $10 to $30 monthly. The authority also approved 80 percent insurance coverage with Allendale Mutual, bids sought from all carriers, and intends to pursue public housing for six elderly tenants in two apartments to be cleared for a forthcoming high rise in Marion. Sealed site proposals will be opened July 27, with four banks named as depositories to streamline rent collection. A summer youth employment program costing $8,000 was approved, with eight 16-year-olds already employed.
