Five Franklin County districts eyed unit school district
A Southern Illinois University study proposes unifying Mulkeytown Christopher Christo pher High School and Les s er Zeigler Royalton districts into a single unit. It would reduce the tax rate to about 2.56 per 100 with a total valuation near 27.97 million. The plan would raise and share state aid, yielding about 697 thousand in total revenue for the unified district, slightly more than the five separate districts combined.

Youth Hurt in Collision Near Blairsville De Soto Road
A 21 year old Herrin man Kenneth E. Jacobson was injured when his motorcycle collided with a car driven by Josnne Kramer 24 of Herrin and a second car driven by Thomas Cassidy 42 of Marion on the Blairsville De Soto road near Bush at 5 10 p m Saturday. Jacobson was treated in Herrin Hospital emergency room for over three hours. Cassidy and Ms Kramer were not reported injured. State police are investigating. Also noted is Noble Kelley a Southern Illinois University psychology professor being named recipient of a Division 12 American Psychological Association annual award for outstanding contributions to clinical psychology.

Windy rain injure eleven in seven Southern Illinois crashes
Eleven persons were injured in seven single vehicle accidents Sunday across Southern Illinois as high winds and rain impaired driving. Riders include Wathena Yearlan of Murphysboro with major injuries after a Rt 149 crash. Gordon Yearlan minor injuries. William Glasco minor injuries. Charles Lasseter minor injuries. Phyllis Rushing minor injuries from a bicycle collision. Helen Williams treated for accident injuries. and others with varying injuries on routes 13 3 150 149 460 and local roads near Shawneetown Red Bud Benton Murphysboro and Chester.
