Jefferson County man awarded 54000 for racial firing
A federal jury in Benton awarded Bobby L. Turner 54000 after ruling he was fired by the Housing Authority of Jefferson County for voicing opposition to racially discriminatory treatment. Turner, a maintenance worker, was fired July 13 1999 and did not seek reinstatement. Marsha Gibbons, executive director, was named as a defendant.

Murphysboro Principal resigns to accept Alton post
Longtime Murphysboro High School principal Phil Trapani has submitted his resignation after accepting the job as Alton High School principal near St. Louis. He will begin July 1 under a three year contract, with Murphysboro Unit School District 186 to vote on the resignation in July. He praised Murphysboro as a fine, progressive community and good place to work.

Three Carbondale residents reported minor injuries after a westbound pickup was struck by a semi tractor trailer on Illinois 13 near Shawnee Trail Road. Floyd W.
