Marion election filing closes with crowded field
Seven candidates filed for the Marion City Council vacancy, creating a heated primary race for the 5400 dollar post. The open seat follows the May resignation of Ron Joyner and death of Lawrence Fearer, with contenders including a longtime merit board chair, a former district governor, an optometrist, and other local leaders. Voter turnout is expected near previous general election levels, as candidates cite public service and experience guiding city police and fire departments.
