Illinois rights under right to know on hold for now

Illinois manufacturing workers temporarily lose some protections under the 1984 right to know law as federal OSHA rules pre empt the statute effective May 1986. Rights suspended include protection from firing for invoking rights and proper labeling of toxic substances while filing requirements remain in effect for companies. About 58 percent of the roughly 10 200 covered firms have complied with the notification requirement. The state has no exact count of workers affected by the ruling.
