Nightmare on Whippoorwill unfolds aboard Po mona showboat

Survivors recall a frantic dash to shore and attempts to rescue those trapped beneath the vessel. The boat remained afloat but heavily damaged with two people pulled from beneath it by nearby marina owner Lawrence Stadel. The event followed a severe thunderstorm watch issued by Kansas City forecasters. The Whippoorwill, built in 1965, was deemed seaworthy despite the disaster.
