Pupils Return To Summer Schools In Southern Illinois
Summer sessions run at Herrin Township High School Carbondale Community High School and University School in Carbondale with 270 attendees at University School and about 185 at Hecta High School. Students from 33 schools in Southern Illinois and five other states pursue extra credits and courses not available during regular terms. Teachers describe balancing classes with work, recreation, and activities, while many plan to use afternoons for swimming and other pursuits.

Eldorado Man Enters Health Training Program
Hugh Wilson a Southern Illinois University senior from Eldorado begins an eight week field training with the Franklin William son Bi County Health Department. He will spend three afternoons weekly at the department and in field work with nurses sanitarians nutritionist and the health educator to learn the department functions and services. Jim Gualdoni a graduate student in health education at SIU also completed a 12 week program with the department last spring.

Pine Ridge Scout Camp Sets Summer Sessions for Several Troops
Scout units from Carbondale Herrin DuQuoin and Pinckneyville join Pine Ridge Scout Reservation for a three week summer camping program on Little Grassy Lake. Egyptian Scout Council operates the camp. Troop leaders include Eugene Chaimness John Wiggins Chester L Greer and others. Provisional troops cover Anna Harrisburg Marion and Carbondale areas with sessions from June 30 to July 6 and July 7 to 13.

Freshmen May Take Make Up Test At CCHS
Carbondale Community High School will hold a make up exam for incoming freshmen at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the school auditorium under principal Harold O Neil. The test is required for September registration. the April session was the original date. The 1963 freshman class is expected to reach about 270, the largest in school history, up from 242 last year.
