Sidewalk Work Begins in Carbondale City Project
Work has started on the first of two sidewalk reconstruction jobs under contract with Carbondale. L. E. Cecil Construction Co. of Carbondale is undertaking the project for $1478. The initial section lies in the 100 block of South Illinois Avenue, with a second 51 foot segment planned on West Main Street in the 200 block.

Collision at Carbondale Intersections Injures No One
Cars driven by Weaver Lynch of Pinckneyville and N R Scott of Metropolis collided at the intersection of University avenue and West Main street in Carbondale Tuesday. Lynch rear ended Scott after a third car stopped suddenly ahead of Scott. The accident occurred around 10 30 a m. No one was hurt.

Two SIU Anthropologists Study New Guinea Art
Southern Illinois University anthropologists Philip J. C. Dark and Joel M. Maring depart for the Seoik River district of New Ireland and the Gazelle Peninsula of New Britain to survey art, language, and culture. They plan a future research project with support from the National Institute of Mental Health and SIU, including a $500 museum fund to acquire New Guinea artifacts.

Carterville Unit Talk Set Thursday
A public meeting will examine how a Carterville unit district would affect the Carterville Grade School district. Taft Baker says the session at 7:00 p.m. in the gym will include Board of Education members and teachers discussing the proposed unit with residents.
