Unemployment rates ease in area counties with mixed drops
April jobless figures show declines in most area counties led by Jackson and Franklin, though the drop is smaller than in recent years. Analyst Mike Wessell cites recessionary pressures and coal market uncertainties as the reason for the lesser decline compared with March and April 1979, with Franklin County remaining the highest and Jackson the lowest in unemployment.
